Montpelier, Vermont

From Montpelier, Vermont

This golden dome of the state capital building in Montpelier, VT, can be seen for miles. It is 24k gold and the sun glistening off of it can be spectacular. One of the oldest cities in the country, Montpelier was settled in the 1780's and became the state capital of Vermont in 1805.

We sign up for the last of the half hourly tours and are able to see most of the interior. Our tour guide does a splendid job, and much to our amazement we didn't have to get x-rayed, inspected and questioned! We did sign the guest book, however.

These stunning chandeliers are in almost every meeting room, be it the Senate or House of Representatives.

As the state buildings all close at 4:30, we have a hasty tour. Next we take a walking tour of the city.

This building is new, but notice how well in blends with the old brick buildings.

Then there are the churches, too numerous to count, and I lost track of which sign goes with which church. So use your imagination & enjoy the steeples. As I said earlier, the Steeple State would have made a great name.

Now almost 5:00 PM, we need to eat. Everyone recommended this restaurant sitting right on the banks of the Winooski River, and as promised, the food is excellent.

Satisfied, it's time to walk the rest of the town and see yet more churches, clock towers, gardens, and sidewalk/yard art.

While at dinner, we decide to skip dessert so as to spread the wealth, so it speak, around a bit. Almost back to our car, we stop at another Skinny Pancake for a dessert crepe and I snap a photo of Bob & the girl at the counter.
